Your Legacy Lives On
15 months have passed, and life has changed a lot. Though most of the daily routines remain the same, I find that I am more aware that each day is gift, and the time doesn’t change how much I miss you. Living so far away from home means that I don’t get to spend as much time with everyone, and there are times I struggle and feel as if no one understands. What I learned this weekend is that there are people who have been through similar losses, who help me better understand how to honor my feelings; there are people who have never experienced this type of a loss and just want to be there for me and love me – UNCONDITIONALLY! I had an opportunity to experience how powerful these relationships are in healing this past weekend and IT WAS AMAZING!
I’m sure it was no coincidence, being it was my birthday this past weekend, that Tempe, AZ was host to the Inaugural DC Wonder Woman 5/10K Race. I had initially planned to do this race by myself, in memory of Kelsey and as a way to continue processing my feelings. I shared with a couple of friends what I was doing and why; they wanted to be a part of it. Guess what, Sarah flew down to join us too! They all shared in getting everything pulled together – forming a team, ordering tutus and WWKD shirts (getting them made and here in less than 1 week), logistics for packet pick up times, and amazing pictures taken along each of their routes! 12 of the most incredible people walking, running and wheeling their way through the race to help honor Kelsey!
You are forever in our hearts, and we will continue to do our part to always keep your legacy alive. Love you sis!
